    Superb

Comfortable. Good interior design. Excelent position.

Could have done with more facilities in room-ice bucket, small bedside table, fridge, better lighting in washroom/toilet. Waiters seemed to have a poor knowledge of food and wine. Complimentary water in room.

    Good

after booking this hotel, we were very excited to be staying in a room which was originally priced at 250.00 a night, we got a great discount at 69.00 per night, knowing the luxury rooms in the castle were 110.00-180.00, we were very excited and were anticipating a very superior room, however on arrival we were allocated a courtyard room which was not to the standard we were expecting when aware the room we had requested was 250.00 per night. we had booked this hotel to celebrate a very special occasion and we both felt our expectations were not met, i have since contacted the hotel to express our feelings.

    Fabulous

Lovely setting ,easy to reach from a1 and in quiet location. Bags of atmosphere. Breakfast excellent.

Bedroom in Courtyard area was dark and although in keeping with the old nature of the place may be a little too "traditional" for some.

It was a unique, out of the ordinary hotel experience which made our whole trip to Durham and its environs extra memorable.

    Very good

    Unique property

Staff could have been more aware of my in-laws difficulty getting up the stairs in the main building, even though they helped transport their luggage....could have donew with swapping rooms with ourselves on the ground level.

What is there not to like about Lumley Castle? First and foremost it is an incredibly beautiful setting. Wandering around the grounds and the castle itself is stepping back in time. The lounge and the library room are gorgeous, the halls, lobby, garden and common rooms are beautifully decorated with wonderful Art and furniture of historical value. Our room was located up a winding staircase with a porthole style window giving us a true Castle expierence. Nice comfy king size bed. Our breakfast was the best on our trip. A wonderful display of fruits and baked items along with the full English breakfast. After visiting so many castles over the years it was an expierence to actually get to stay in one.

I wouldn't call this a complaint.....just a thought. It is a very popular hotel with the locals and is used for weddings, graduations and parties. Parking can become tight (although we always found a spot) and the music can be heard until late on the weekends. At the same time, it is fun to see so many brides, and people dressed to the nines enjoying themselves in this most wonderful of castles.

We love this hotel....it is really individual and quite gothic in appearance. The staff were great....my son cannot eat wheat or dairy and the restaurant staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble. We definately want to go back to The Lumley Castle again.... It is so refreshing to find such a gem.

Very friendly helpful staff, beautiful surroundings, and one of the quietest rooms I have ever stayed in.

Bar and restaurant prices a bit expensive.

The hotel is very atmospheric and provides a truly relaxing environment at a competitive rate.

Our room was slightly small for 2 people and we couldn't get either the hotel wifi or our own 3 mifi to work within our room.

Great atmosphere and feeling of tradition.

    Superb

I thought the rooms were very good value for money. The castle itself was an amazing historical building. The breakfast was very high quality and the staff were extremeley polite and accomodating. The private dining rooms looked fabulous for an intimate dinner party or celebration.

The rooms could benefit from air-con as they are quite dark with small windows and can get hot in the warmer weather. I expect they are very cosy however in the winter months.

    Superb

The castle was in a beautiful setting and very picturesque. The function we attended was excellent and the rooms were comfortable and very clean. Being a castle there was lots of history and you could imagine how it was used originally, a lot of original features. Overall stay was very good.

Quite easy to get lost around all the winding stone corridors.

    Good

Was only ther one night. The staff who were serving were all very friendly. It was obviuosly an important venue for weddings.

I would like to have had better food for the price of the stay. The breakfast was finebut the light lunches were definitely over priced and below standard.
